“Hence an aspirant, by the grace of his Guru and constant practice of yoga, can someday realize... the Indweller that is of the nature of supreme peace and eternal bliss...”
The Ashtanga Yoga and Applied Psychophysiology Group (AYAP RG) was founded as the Yoga and Biofeedback Research Society. The goals of the group are to individualize and increase traditional Ashtanga Yoga practice efficiency through integration with biofeedback and other self-regulatory and diagnostics methods (e.g. vegetative balance and psychoemotional strain examination by breath rhythm and heart rate variability cross-analysis).
AYAP RGs mission is to advance the development, dissemination and utilization of knowledge about Ashtanga Yoga (in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois), psychophysiology, stress management and biofeedback to improve health and the quality of life through research, education and daily yoga practice.
Membership in AYAP RG is open to educators, researches and Ashtanga Yoga teachers interested in the investigation and application of psychophysiology methods and biofeedback in yoga.
Biofeedback procedures allow an aspirant to control his or her physiological functions or mental state using specific sets of psychological variables calculated from polygraphical data such as electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyogram (EMG), electrocardiogram (ECG), skin galvanic response (SGR), temperature (TEMP), respiration (RESP), etc.
